Artist Statement

In my work as an artist, I am motivated by the notion that something is wrong about the way we relate to the world, particularly in Western society. This feeling arose from firsthand encounters with suffering, whether in my own life or in experiencing the trauma of other (human or non-human) beings, sparking a strong desire to understand its causes. This urge has been correlating with the growing conviction that a different world is possible. A world where there is more dialogue, more understanding, more social equity and less violence, where we built systems that don't create toxic needs but meet our actual ones. By embodying a vantage point of interconnectedness and interdependence I seek to overcome the fragmented perspective in which the symptoms of our time are illuminated. I am fascinated by the stories we tell each other about the world, how they are weaved into people’s minds and enacted in the systems that surround us.
My projects emerge from personal encounters resulting in the necessity to become an active agent of change by initiating a tentative open-ended research of trial and error.

I mainly work with photographs and film, mediums that enable to investigate ‘truth’ with a perspectivist approach. I believe it is the seductive possibility to make a claim about reality that drew me to these mediums. Today they have become tools to reflect with others on our understanding of existence and to embrace it as relational, embodied and positioned.
I like to collect visualizations that mirror certain perceptions on reality from the past through archive material, research the present by producing photographs and film as well as think with and through images in workshop formats. These interactions are my starting point to explore possible futures in a rhizomatic way in conversations with the agents involved over time. This is mostly done with a mindset of play where experimentation enables to break free from rigid patterns and encounter unexpected relations. I regard my practice as an ongoing research where opening spaces for dialogue and deep listening leads to mutual education and facilitates community where needed.
